Ten Years of Madness

What does the quote "The political criminals of those days weren't people who went out and committed some "crime" for the sake of politics. They were the sacrificial objects that politics demanded" mean? What example from the text can you find to support this?

What was the worst thing that happened to the man in this story? Why do you say it was the worse? Be specific.

  1. yeah im the first to post(Brian, see if you could beat that).

The quote allows the reader to believe that the people who commited crime for the sake of politics were influecned by the politics.

In the story we read the man was accused of something that he never did. This is the worst thing becasue he serves a long time in jail for something that they didn't even interrogate him about. It ended up not even being a big deal. It was just a toy gun on his key chain.

    This question is to Brian:
When are you gonna post buddy?

  2. haa halrious.. check who posted first on tankman. yea thats what i thought.

But i do agree with Sal. This story shows first hand how extreme the goverment was during the revolution. An innocent man served serious jailtime for nothing.

My question is how can the chinese people consider that progess putting many innocent people in jail and or destroying priceless artwork, literature..etc

  3. You know what Iris ill tell you why. The Chinese government cares a lot about how they look to the rest of the world, and get things done that they think need to be done, no questions asked. I mean maybe they were going for the whole South Kent "simplicity of life" theme. But nah they definitely don't care too much about what they do to get to their goal.

  4. Interestingly enough I have a differnt take on the quote. I think both Sal and Brian are incorrect in their assessment. Here is what I say...."the political prisoners were the sacrificial objects that politics demanded" to me means that someone was going to jail to help facilitate change, and it did not matter if they were innocent or guilty. The goverment wanted change, and were willing to do whatever necessary to make that change. Sacrifice a few people as "counter-revolutionaries" and the other counter-revolutionarires will go away.

Eh? The old guy make some sense or what?
